2015 MACTE Fall Conference

 

October 30th, 2015: The Fall Conference at Central Michigan University had over 40 individuals attend from all over the state, two topics were the focus of the conference: Standard 2 of CAEP and developing a comprehensive plan for Michigan Partnerships that enhances teacher preparation and P-12 student growth. The afternoon, focused on a discussion regarding PRE and Assessing teacher candidate’s readiness to student teach and enter clinical experiences. The MDE Higher Ed Team and the ETS professional team participated in the presentations and the discussions of the MACTE members in attendance.

 

2015 MACTE Summer Workshop

 

June 15-16, 2015: The two-day Summer Workshop was held at Northern Michigan University. The Workshop  focused on a discussion regarding the PRE and it’s content validity. Participants were asked to prepare for the workshop by taking a practice Professional Readiness Exam (PRE) so they would be able to provide accurate input. Mark LaCelle Peterson, Vice President for Policy and Programs, and Sungti Hsu, Director of State Affiliates and Partnership Support, of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) were in attendance to facilitate the discussion.


MACTE's Reception at the 68th Annual AACTE Meeting

At AACTE’s 68th Annual Meeting, MACTE hosted a reception featuring remarks and a Q&A session with Mark LaCelle-Peterson, Ed.D., AACTE vice president for policy and programs.


LaCelle-Peterson, also currently the  the senior vice president of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), provided key insights into assessment standards for national accreditation, specifically in regards to creating an evidence-based approach to evaluating performance in preparing beginning teachers.

 

Before being tasked with providing strategic and operational leadership for AACTE’s Policy and Programs Department as vice president for policy and programs, according to AACTE, LaCelle-Peterson served as president of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and previously worked as a researcher, faculty member and administrator in teacher preparation programs in New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C.

Reviewed 2013 Strategic Plan goals (Develop a committee structure that parallels AACTE and mobilized committees based on annually identified MACTE priorities; Developed and implemented an advocacy plan for educator preparation at the state level in matters of legislative policy, and regulatory matters related to initial and advanced educator preparation and licensure; Developed and disseminated position statements on issues of importance to educator preparation and licensure; Developed a statewide initiative showcasing excellence in educator preparation), established working committees and set priorities for 2014-15.
